SYC Rules

We all want to enjoy the week and experience God at SYC. Certain things can distract from this. Here are some rules for youth and leaders to follow so everyone will enjoy the week:

Keep track of your belongings. Mark your name on everything. Leave valuables with your leader (or at home).

Wear appropriate clothes. T-shirts with suggestive logos or art work are not appropriate, and you will be asked to change.

Pack carefully. The focus of the week is on God, and electronic toys can distract from this. No portable gaming devices, laptops, etc. If you bring them for the trip, leave them with your church group leader after you arrive. Your leader will return your items for the trip home.

Cell phones may be used during meals and free times. They are not to be used during organized activities such as worship, bible study, track times or rec. Distracting and/or inappropriate use of phones during these activities will result in it being taken away and returned at the end of camp. SYC is not responsible for any lost or damaged phones.

No tobacco products, alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs are permitted on the premises. If you are caught with any alcohol or drugs, you will be sent home immediately at your expense. Random checks may occur.

Campus Boundaries: Once you have arrived at camp, you are not allowed to leave campus until camp is over. If there is a very special circumstance, youth may leave with a leader and with the permission of the director.

Respecting Campus: We need to respect the camp and each other by keeping the camp clean. Clean-up as you go throughout the week. Everyone is responsible for doing their part.

Attendance is mandatory for all activities. Being on time is really important. If illness prevents you from participating in some activity, you must inform your church group leader.

Lights out is strictly enforced to make sure we all get the rest we need to enjoy SYC.

Room Policy: At all times, girls stay out of guys rooms, and guys out of girls rooms.

These expectations are in place to facilitate the best week possible at youth camp. If at any time these expectations are not met, it is up to the discretion of your church group leader and the SYC team to impose consequences.

SYC Dress Code

SYC desires to maintain an appropriate atmosphere at camp that bridges many cultures and provides adequate flexibility for sport and safety. A dress code for our students and leaders that is both comfortable and modest is part of making camp great. It has proven very difficult to define a dress code in absolute terms without creating loopholes and ambiguous guidelines. With all of us working together to uphold this dress code, we hope to maintain a focus on what truly matters. Our simple hope is to create an atmosphere of modesty and respect where people can be encouraged, yet not distracted. So please join us as we strive towards this goal with the following standards.

While our leaders work hard to enforce our standard of dress, we try not to make it our only focus. We apologize in advance if there are any inconsistencies in addressing the standard of dress for one student and not another.

Please review these and pack accordingly:

  • No attire with reference to any type of alcoholic beverage, illegal substance, lewd, vulgar, indecent or sexually suggestive subjects may be worn.

  • No revealing or excessively tight clothing

    • Clothing must not be so tight that it reveals undergarments.

    • Undergarments must not be seen.

  • Bottoms are to be modest in length, specifically the lower hem is fingertip length or lower while standing.

  • Shirts should have at least two fingers width of shoulder cover, fit loosely and be long enough to overlap or tuck into bottoms while standing.

  • Clothing is to be worn at all times except in the pool, shower or dorm room. Clothing must be worn to and from the pool.

  • In the gymnasium, only clean indoor-only shoes will be worn.

Dress Code Violation Handling

If anyone believes that someone else’s clothing is inappropriate they are to address their concern to the Church Group leader of that person OR the designated Dress Code Point Person (the Camp Director will have someone designated for this role, themselves or another on the SYC team in most cases). Only Church Group Leaders of the individual, or the Point Person, will directly discuss the issue and request changes with an individual who needs redirection. While it is a last resort, repeat occurrences or an unwillingness to cooperate are grounds for dismissal from camp.

SYC Technology & Device Policy

At SYC, our goal is to create a week where students can be fully present—engaging with their group, building friendships, and participating in everything camp has to offer. To support this, we have a clear technology policy that applies to all students and leaders.

When Devices May Be Used

Students and leaders may use personal devices during meals and free time. This includes phones, tablets, handheld gaming devices, and other personal electronics.

When Devices May Not Be Used

  • Worship
  • Bible study
  • Track times
  • Recreation
  • Evening services
  • Church group time
  • Lights Out (Scheduled activity; devices must be off)

If a Device Becomes a Distraction

If a student or leader uses a device in a way that is distracting, inappropriate, or disruptive to the camp environment, the device will be collected by a leader and returned at the end of the week. Examples include:

  • Using devices during scheduled activities

  • Excessive or isolating use during free time

  • Content or communication that is inappropriate for a camp setting

Responsibility for Devices

SYC is not responsible for any lost, damaged, or stolen devices. Students and leaders bring technology at their own risk.

Annual Review of This Policy
We revisit our technology policy every year. If we find that phones or other devices are consistently being misused or becoming a barrier to community, we may move toward a more restrictive or screen‑free policy in future years.
